Domain Verification

You can claim a domain for your team by verifying that you own it. Verifying that you own a domain has two advantages:

  • It eliminates the need to manually add new users to your team: When collaborators sign up with an email address whose domain matches a domain that you've verified, they are automatically added to your team.
  • It allows you to configure single sign-in (SSO) for your team in Plotly Cloud, should you want to.

You can verify your domain in a few secure steps that Plotly Cloud guides you through.

Verifying your domain

Info

After verifying a domain, all users who sign up to Plotly Cloud using a matching email address will be automatically added to the team and given the Viewer role within the team. If all included Viewer seats are filled and a user joins the team, you will be charged a prorated amount of the Viewer seat cost.

A given domain can only be verified by a single team on Plotly Cloud. If another team has already verified the domain, you'll see a message similar to "Domain already exists."

Prerequisites:

  • Your team must be on the Pro plan or higher.
  • You must be a Creator in the team.
  • You must have access to the DNS service provider that your organization uses for the domain that you want to verify (required to prove that your organization owns the domain).

To verify a domain:

  1. In Plotly Cloud, go to the Team settings.
  2. Under Domain verification, select Add domain. The domain verification page opens in a new tab.
  3. Enter the domain that you want to verify, then select Continue. The DNS service provider is automatically detected.
  4. Follow the instructions to provide proof that you own the domain (exact steps vary by DNS service provider).

Users who sign up to Plotly Cloud with an email address matching the domain you've verified will now be automatically added as members of the team.

Removing a verified domain

Warning

Removing a verified domain after you have enabled SSO prevents team members from accessing your team.

  1. Go to the Team settings.
  2. Next to the domain that you want to remove, select Remove.
  3. In the confirmation message, select Remove domain.
